Is it possible to have freedom under an authoritarian state?

Posted on November 21st, 2009 by admin

Sure. Think of the Christian right in America. They want to restrict the liberties of people who are not like them. At the same time, they they wave their flags and say they believe in freedom. They believe you should have freedom to be exactly like them. They try to impose laws on those who are different.
Likewise, If you are a fascist who lives in a fascist state, it probably feels quite free to you because you are free to be a fascist!

    Yes.

In the Soviet Union, all business and profit-making was outlawed. The result was the development of countless black markets.

    Authoritarianism is not enforceable.

As long as it doesn’t oppose or challenge significantly the State, yes. Most authoritarian states are run by the insecure power-hungry that will do anything to protect their accumulated power…. kind of like the autocratic elite of America.

Bush certainly tried to take our rights away and succeeded in doing so in some aspects. He wanted to be King, or maybe a god because he operated one way (poorly) in public and another (even more poorly) behind closed doors.

Every man is free to act as he will. Whether or not he like the consequences imposed for those actions is his freedom to choose.
