I don't agree with the Fairness Doctrine, but I fail to see how it violates anyone's Freedom of Speech.

Freedom of Speech does not gaurantee exclusivity of speech.
References :
The fairness doctrine is a good example of doublespeak, because it implies fairness, but its really censorship of all opposition. Its like liberals trying to say that America is a salad bowl, and not a melting pot.

I hope that even democrats see where this is going and vote on their consciousness of what this will do to America if it passes. At least the republicans who are still around are being to respond to Obama and that is a good sign. We will have to gear up for the elections in 2010, and god help us all.
References :
Obviously freedom of speech means different things to different people. For example: Freedom of speech to the Democrats means: You can say what ever you like as long as you agree with us. Why can't people accept that everyone has the right to an opinion with out throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It seems that when ever a Republican has an opinion it is unfair, so the Democrats have to enact a fairness doctrine.
References :
I believe that many Democrats will not. They wont stand up in protest of such an incursion on our Constitutional right to free speech because they will believe that the limitation only applies to Limbaugh and his ilk. They, rightly, will believe this because conservatives would, stereo-typically, never launch such an effort against their right to free speech. One of the sine qua nons of authoratarian regimes is silencing dissent.
References :
History, Iran, saddam's Iraq, N. Korea, USSR, Nazi-Germany, ad nauseum.

Andrea- a great question & one of my big concerns! Since I know your own personal politics and previous politics- I really love watching you grow as a conservative. Free speech is for all of us, not just Republicans, not just Dems. The fact that the dems call it a "fairness doctrine" makes it sound like a good thing- to those who don't really understand what it is. I think they did that on purpose for the bleeding hearts to hear the word "fairness". Of course they will support it, some having no idea what it is- other than Dems want it. This will be a HUGE fight if it happens! I have already started on my representatives.
References :
They won't. They'll stand up for freedom of speech for Democrats, but not for anybody else. They don't appear to actually care very much what is fair.
References :
Odd that you say that now considering the Bush administration's action on illegal eavesdropping, the news media that were fired because they spoke out against Bush. Ignoring the Constitution....oh, but apparently you have NO problem with that....that IS your freedom of speech...

As to conservative radio....if you like the fiflth of Rush, Coulter and Hannity....knock yourself out. If I remember correctly, it was the Liberals that had to move to private forms of media because the republicans and Bush did not anyone criticizing what they did or how they stole from the American people.

News flash...I don't know where you have been, but the Liberals are all for freedom of speech...even the fiflth you like to listen to. The Liberals have never said they wanted a setting president to fail...unlike the common trash republicans. The ACLU even defended Limbaugh.

As to your slurs against the liberals and the Democrats...without the forward thinking of people like this...we would still be under British rule. Republicans are pathetic. Finally we have a President that believes in the Constitution (unlike Bush) and will do something for people instead of against people! And you people cannot stand it!

Yes...we support your rights...unlike you people supported us the last eight years. I really don't care what you people listen to!

You think Obama has WHAT to the constitution? What do YOU think BUSH DID?????? Oh please! Firing people who did not agree with him...is THAT your idea of following the constitution??? What part of the constitution has Obama NOT followed?

I'm delusional...Please! The Republicans tell you people what to think! I bet you are from the south.

Ron Paul....I bet was your guy....if you look at his voting record...he is just another Bush...just like McCain!
References :
What ever happened to, "I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death for your right to say it", I would never want any group silenced simply because I didn't agree with them and what is done to one group can be done to another group and taking a persons right to free speech can lead to other rights being taken away.
