Freedom of speech: when and how did it start?

Posted on January 29th, 2010 by admin

I’m writing a research paper for college assignment; I have some questions about freedom of speech and need some information about it :)

When did it begin? Did it first started since ancient Athens?
Who is the famous personage of freedom of speech during the classic period?
Any suggestion/recommendation in writing a research paper?

Thank you so much!

You can only speak freely when there is no fear of reprisal. Honestly everyone watches what they say even to there own family because maybe they depend on them. So what really is free speech? As far as laws are concerned I feel almost certain we are the first nation (US) to actually pass a law that specifically outlines your freedom of expression. I really do not think there is another out there, and we may not last much longer since the notorious communists within our country want to impose the "Fairness Doctrine" which will launch fines and possibly imprison current Conservative Radio talk show hosts if they fail to adhere to socialist reform and government regulations. As Reagan said in his inaugural address, we are the "last great" fortress of freedom. And we are under siege…
