what are my rights regarding freedom of information?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

i live in ireland and wish to know my rights regarding freedom of information, a relative was murdered 13 years ago and the case has never been solved, the police had recieved alot of information regarding the case and now the case for the last 11 years has not been active and not investigated, do i have a right to gain copies of documents regarding the case of my murdered relative and if i dont, who does?

If the case is still open then the police do not have to release copies of the files.

Maybe under the Data Protection Act but it might not apply depending on the circumstances and your direct relationship with the deceased. Perhaps getting a solicitors advice will help. Technology has improved since then and could throw new light on the matter. Good luck
