In the UK, we do not have freedom of the press. The recent case with John Terry showed that http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/jan/31/john-terry-government-concern-super-injunctions and although that was overturned, that has not been the case in other areas.

Tiger Woods has used the courts to ban publication of photographs that may or may not exist about him and other women. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/dec/11/tiger-woods-law-injunction-media

And another ban on reporting where the Guardian was banned from reporting on Trafigura was only lifted once the story was leaked on Twitter. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/oct/13/guardian-gagged-parliamentary-question

Let alone the dreaded D notice (or the DA notice as it is now called). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DA-Notice While the D notice has been quite rightly used for national security, it also has been used at times to silence the press in the UK. In general though, it tends not to be misused, though from what I know of some cases, this is not always the truth. For obvious reasons, I can not say more on where I think it has been misused!

It already has gone in the UK. Anything the government don't want printed they slap a D Notice on.

There would probably be a lot more truth about The gutter press don`t give a damn what lies they print about other people , or about their right to privacy But they are the first to scream about freedoms when their dubious methods are threatened I gave up buying newspapers because of their guttersnipe values

Since when was there freedom of the press? The press are owned or controlled by the same banking oligarchy that control the money supply to all but a few countries around the world and by this means the governments. They print what they are told to print.
