What is so important about freedom of the press?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

I have to write a one page letter about the importance of freedom of the press. Please help me out with some ideas? Thank you so much. :)

Allows the ‘people’ to make an informed choice and decision on how they feel or act about issues.

Examples where the media is not free prejudices what the public can hear, or know about – so keep them naive and controllable. Examples here are Communist communities (such as China).

Sometimes the media is used for propoganda, such as in the war, to mis-communicate – which again, although will help the aim, is not fair to people.
