The fairness doctrine was an FCC rule which demanded that commercial TV stations must present all views on a topic. If a Republican gave his views to an interviewer, then the interviewer must have a Democrat to give the counter-view. If a pro choice person gave his views, then a pro life person must be permitted to give his views. If a person expressed a view that big conglomerates should be allowed to swallow up other corporations, then the interviewer was forced to allow another person to express opinions that allowing big conglomerates to control all the news is bad for democracy.

The TV networks are owned by big corporations with their own agenda. GENERAL ELECTRIC owns NBC. WESTINGHOUSE owns CBS. I believe Disney owns ABC, but I'm not certain. Since the fairness doctrine was removed, these corporations are not going to allow people to express views which go counter to the interest of the corporations' profits.
