Should schools limit students right to freedom of speech online?

Posted on March 5th, 2010 by admin

I have to write a paper about this and can’t decide my opinoin. Do you think Schools should limit students freedom of speech online (Outside of school) for the common good? Or should they protect students individual right to freedom of speech? And why? Thanks :)

yes they should limit students freedom of speech online to an extent. Schools should not have complete control over what kids say but in some occasions, it is very necessary. Children have completed suicide due to cyber bullying so yes, schools should definitely limit students freedom of speech when it is dramatically affecting the lives of other students and preventing them from getting a normal education. When it comes to cursing and joking around, kids should have more freedom.

If schools start controlling what you can and cannot do during non-school hours then you are losing some of your freedoms.

If it is legal for you to do or say at your age, then you should be able to do it outside of school. How is a school going to know what you IM to your friend anyway? Schools need to mind their own business and focus on punishing students for after hour illegal things only. I’m all for schools being upset if you do drugs, but not what you post on facebook.

No. Mainy cause freedom of speech is a CONSTITUTIONAL right. If schools tried to control what you said at home, they are asking for a court date.

okay, i think it is so dumb that schools get into peoples private lives out of school. they should only worry about what goes on in school!
