On yahoo? Not really! I guess it depends if people are pissed at you or not. I have asked some rude questions that have made my way through and not been deleted and other times, I have had liberals report me just because they hate me and I have to fight to have it reinstated.

It doesn’t really exist anywhere online. Go write something rude on a newspaper site. it will be gone so fast!

But that’s just how it goes. Yahoo owns this so they get to pick how it is to be operated. We choose to use it and we have to comply with their rules.

It doesn’t exist anywhere except in your home. Try cursing or insulting others inside companies, schools, churches, museums, etc. and see what happens.

No freedom of speech does not exist online because you are purchasing your access from a business and posting on a website owned by another.
You have only the freedom that those businesses allow you to have, which they restrict according to their Public image.

    No freedoms are absolute.

If you mean in YA, then no. Anyone can have your question and answer deleted just by hitting the "Report Abuse" button because yahoo answer system is automatic. No real person is behind the switch analysing the material being reported.

Freedom of speech exists online. More so online then anywhere else because of anonymity. However, when dealing with a privately owned site, the rules don’t have to allow for freedom of speech. They can censor however they want. But, I do think that users have way to much power over who gets censored. Yahoo Answers should monitor it themselves and stop relying on users to monitor it for them. Users can be vindictive, judgmental, and childish when it comes to the "report abuse" feature. But, again, it is a private site and so they have the right to run it how they want and censor it how they want.

If you want to say whatever you want to say without censorship, start your own site and say it. No one will stop you if you own the site. Unless you post illegal or libelous content. But that limitation to free speech is the same in real life as it is in cyberspace.

You have complete freedom of speech! (As long as you agree with the Liberals running YA and they say you have)

If my answers get deleted I fill out the form to have them reinstated. Usually there’s not problem. Personally I’ve never deleted anyone’s question or answer as I think it is self defeating if rigid people get to only read answers they like. I am left leaning btw and have a lot of stuff removed so I don’t think it’s political.

to some extent, you can say alot more then what you would say to a persons face, because you can remain anonymous.
but it really depends on the site and how much they restrict>

Anyone can create a website and say what they please, which is all the constitution guarantees. However they are usually ignored so they post on other people sites to get an audience so their complaints are not really about freedom of speech but about the right to be heard, and that is not constitutional right. To get people to listen you must say something interesting or informative and at the very least not offend them and the people who pay for and run a site has the right to edit the content.

As a "girl" who has regularly visited this facist site under various ‘guises to provoke interesting answers for discussion of, let’s just say it depends on who they want to listen to, which kills all the excitement really.

Some feckin idjits think freedom of speech is to say STFU or whatever but there will always be idjits under this system as it stands, because they have nothing to say that anyone really cares about hearing. The spoil sports are reporters and rules including idol speak dumb acts like for instance, a bored teenager that should be doing something than saying and when they have experienced doing, we are more than happy to share. So I chose to ignore than give them my attention, whilst they are free to report all my interesting stuff so they can be rewarded with puny points, lets give them a medal made from recycled fecies because they stink.

Under reasonable conditions (excluding Yahoo TOS) we should be free to ask intelligent or silly questions when we so wish it is a Q&A’s forum after all, its not as some think for point gaming and acting above your station we should be treated as equals but seemingly like everywhere sadly only the conformists are given all the credit where there is none.

I bloody hate all that trivial drivel don’t you? Let’s get people fired up and passionate instead.

I think a lot had nearly 40 yrs experience of being……
