Do you support the freedom to home school children. Yes or No and why?
Posted on March 5th, 2010 by admin
I am a homeschooling parent. My child has always been home schooled. Her SAT scores are far above any public school child of her age.She is now a teen and in the 9th grade already on a college level term.
Every State requires the Child to have testing done , every year .Some allow a child and their parent or teacher to submit a Portfolio, with all their work and tests and curriculum’s to a professional teacher who is appointed by the State to over see that portfolio and to make sure the child is doing what the State requires .
The SAT tests are performed and done by someone other than the parent and is submitted to the testing facility for scoring and then the results are given to the parent/teacher to take to their States Board of Education for proof of child’s education and its results.
people claim home schooled children are not sociable. That is not true, my child has friends and they participate in what they desire. But for my child she rather not interact with allot of people cause of their behavior. She is already superior in selection and maturity to her actions and their results and consequences. Unlike most public school children who are by that system taught its ok as long as it feels good. And that is where we have a problem with Public schools .It is not student friendly nor is it about a child’s education, but a child being molded to believe whatever that system requires .
My child has options and is allowed to receive Both sides of the story as it were to make up their own mind to what is correct and what is not based on facts and evidence and Historical data. Not what someone says and that’s what you have to do or like or obey without being given BOTH sides of the matter .
Science for example , in public schools demands everything the scientist and the government agenda says must be true and taught as facts without evidence and without question and or debate.
Home schooling allows every one to give their child Both sides of the matter and the facts and evidence to conclude by common sense and value what is True and what is not .
That’s why statistics show home schooled children demonstrate a higher learning ability and have a higher employment value and actual employment is higher than public school system attendees.
Even colleges have learned that children who are allowed to take classes on line at home and to direct their own paths to gain the knowledge and required classes to their curriculum learn faster and at a higher rate then those who are at school participants . The college life is now about the party and the fun and the if it feels good agenda , again , rather than the students learning and becoming higher trained citizens and with the skill set to produce the industrial minded technology of the 21st Century .That’s why public schools are now scrambling to gain more access to the online and home studies agenda !!
Here in my state they are trying to pass laws to raise the age of being able to drop out of school , cause the levels of public school drop outs have tripled. And also in one entire county they got rid of the administrator and replaced them and have taken the schools over and out of the hands of the School board. Also i read in another state where in one school this year is the last year for every teacher in it , and they all are going to be replaced cause of the failure of education in that school.
NOt sure where it was ,it was a story online a few weeks ago .
SO with all that said….its plain to see how the Private and especially the Home schooling, is the best way to go for any child if its possible for the parent to do so .
And parents it doesn’t have to be a trained teacher with some big degree or someone like public schools who are about getting paid not teaching kids.It takes common sense to be a teacher not a degree of years of study to draw a paycheck, and call yourselves any better then any parent who loves their kids
Anyone you know who has the time and the ability to read and count can teach your child everything they need to know and far above any public school teacher with simple basic skills and the desire to do so . All it takes is TLC and the simple cheap home schooling curriculum’s that are online, at your local Board of education or one like the school of tomorrow, or any accredited school curriculum providers !!

Of course I do. Just as I support parents freedom to send their children to public school. Whatever works for your family.

Yes I do, and I intend on homeschooling my children. Not only do i feel they will get a far better education with me teaching them then some teacher who has 30 other kids in her classroom to teach as well, but I think it’s better for the economy. As long as the parent is actually teaching their child the government shouldn’t have any say in it.

Yes, I live in the United States of America where we can and should have these freedoms. Those who can not afford private school and are not satisfied with how public schools are run should have another option. I know there are trade schools but those generally are not available until the child is of high school age.
I’ve known several kids that I met in college who were home-schooled. They all participated in community activities where social interaction with kids their own age were in abundance. YMCA, boy scouts, girl scouts sports teams sponsored by the town (not a school), neighbors and so on and so forth were all there for them to interact with. These people that I’ve known are well-adjusted hard working adults and most are more intelligent than those that went to public school and even some that went to private.

I support the right to home school your own children.
I also support the right to immigrate to a new country using the correct and regular methods of immigration…rather than seeking "asylum" and skipping over the process entirely using this topic as a ticket in…while we sit here and condemn other races for trying to do the same thing.
What makes these people "martyrs" fleeing oppression….but "Jose" is just an "illegal"
Seems to me it’s 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. We all want what’s best for our kids.
What’s good for Gretchen should be good for Jose.

It should not be just a free-for-all, anything goes curriculum.
Homeschool kids should be required to take once a year tests in a public setting (i.e. where the parent is not standing over their shoulder, coaching the answers) in basic subjects such as reading comprehension and math skills..
As long as the basics of reading and math are being taught competently, I don’t care if you choose to teach your children whatever you like when it comes to science, social studies and history. For example, if you want to homeschool because you believe that evolutionary theory is false (because you believe the earth is only 6000 years old, or because you think the Flying Spaghetti Monster created the earth’s inhabitants with his noodly appendage), and don’t want to expose your children to that, then go for it. But expect your child to still be held to basic standards of learning. When children can not meet those standards, then those parents should not be allowed to homeschool without intervention.

I support the freedom to homeschool, the same way I support the freedom of sending your children to public school.

Depends on how that freedom is being used.
I attended an online school for my sophmore, junior and senior year of high school because my health problems throughout my public school education had me missing half the school year. I would keep up on my work and still get A’s and B’s, but my teachers didn’t like it and weren’t happy with it so finally i just thought "screw it…there are alternatives, i’m not putting up with this" and went for an online school that better suited my schedule when i had more health problems and i didn’t have to deal with teachers.
In my case, i agree with the freedom to homeschool. I also agree with homeschooling if parents want to play a major role in what their children are learning and how they’re learning it. I know some parents don’t like how teachers can be crass and blunt with students or how some teachers don’t take the time to fully explain things. Kids who’re homeschooled not knowing how to socialize is complete bull. If the parents and the child put the effort in, then homeschool kids can be just as well off and possibly better than public school kids. For the ages of 5-16, it’s all on the parents…if kids don’t get out to community activities or homeschooling functions, it’s just because the parents don’t care and are lazy. Past the age of 16, when the child can drive, then it’s all on him/her. So socialization isn’t a true arguments against homeschool really.
But i don’t agree with homeschooling if it’s being used solely to over-shelter a child because it’s not being realistic. Children hang out and are friends with the opposite sex, it just a fact of life. Parents may want to decide that they don’t want their child in sex ed in school, but that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t teach their children sex ed in their own ways. Violence, drugs, and alcohol are also a part of life and parents can’t hide it from their children for ever. Parents need to teach good values and manners and morals…good life lessons, right from wrong and how to make the right decisions and how to say no. Homeschooling should not be used to blindfold your child against the negative sides of life.
I also don’t agree with homeschooling being used as a way to control kids. Kids need to make their own decisions some of the time…they get that in school. they get to choose what they do for recess or when the teacher gives them extra time before the bell rings. Parents shouldn’t keep their kids home just so they can schedule every minute of every day and so their able to control their child’s every move.

I support people making educated and healthy decisions that work for their families. What ever decision that may be, from schooling to feeding etc. What I dont support is people rubbing their decisions in my face as superior to my decisions.

I do, because it’s the parent’s choice.
However I think that there are still definitely ways for the home schooling system to be improved.

Yes I do, I think it is a good option if it works for the family. It should be an option. No government should be given power to dictate non-abusive actions parents have with their children, including the decision on where to educate the child and how. I may choose to home school two or all of my children, it is too difficult where I live right now because it is not common and the government is very strict, but I hope to return to Canada and it is not difficult there.

i think every parent has the right to home school their child but most home schooled kids need more friends most of them don’t have very many which effects them socially which i don’t like at all

Yes. Children are their parents responsibility. There really is no sound justification for public education. There is a justification for some sort of public subsidy such as school vouchers, but not for the government to be the provider.

P.S. i attended public school and all i got out of it was a waste of years after the first 6 or 7 years i learned nothing of value to prepare me for the real world. And again thats why kids are dropping out at an alarming rate in every State in the U.S. today .
Don’t know about any of you all i got from public schools were empty promises amd the threats of being sent away , for not obeying their agenda.
I promised myself my child wouldnt be treated that way and would actually get a education that taught common sense and the Truth and facts, not Lies that claimed to be.
With years of research and study and living life and working , i learned the Truth and the false agenda of the public system and its lies and hypocrisy and the dumbing down of our kids .
Thats why mine is taught at home is is excelling far above their level and any their age in any public school system
