Why is freedom of the press being denied on the GOM to CNN reporter Anderson Cooper and others?

What even more terrible news does Washington have to hide, and just WHO declared martial law on the GOM without telling the rest of us? Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are guaranteed rights in the U.S. Constitution. If these rights have been taken without anyone telling us, then we have a constitutional crisis, in addition to an extinction-level oil disaster.

Corporations get to make up the law, with both parties’ blessing.

the law is of the corporations, by the corporations. We the People need not apply.

Elected Dems are just as bad as Republicans on this.

"Freedom of Press" is Obamaspeak for limiting the free speech of the Press. When Obama signs something that sounds too good, it’s usually attached to something we don’t need and will be very costly. Obama always has something up his sleeve even when he acknowledges what the people want.

How have freedom of speech and freedom of the press been affected by the Federal Communication Commission’s removal of the fairness doctrine for broadcast media?

Please help i have a final due & it had 25 questions this is one i cant figure out what to write please help. : /

The fairness doctrine was an FCC rule which demanded that commercial TV stations must present all views on a topic. If a Republican gave his views to an interviewer, then the interviewer must have a Democrat to give the counter-view. If a pro choice person gave his views, then a pro life person must be permitted to give his views. If a person expressed a view that big conglomerates should be allowed to swallow up other corporations, then the interviewer was forced to allow another person to express opinions that allowing big conglomerates to control all the news is bad for democracy.

The TV networks are owned by big corporations with their own agenda. GENERAL ELECTRIC owns NBC. WESTINGHOUSE owns CBS. I believe Disney owns ABC, but I’m not certain. Since the fairness doctrine was removed, these corporations are not going to allow people to express views which go counter to the interest of the corporations’ profits.

Why is it on the "Reporters Without Borders" Press Freedom Index, we’re #20, next to Jamaica and the UK?

I guess the "freedom of speech" argument against European countries is no longer validated:

because that means there are 20 countries on earth with more press freedom than us.

so why do conservatives love to use that argument against Europeans?

It should be an automatic right to live in a world where the press can report what happens without government interference. Sadly this is not always the case, but thankfully there are a few countries that allow this democratic right, mostly in northern Europe. What countries do you think enjoy these freedoms?

Most Anglo-Celtic countries North America, UK, Australia and New Zeaalnd, such as Commonwealth of Nations members have a fair degree of freedom of the press.

The fourth estate however are fairly censored and controlled still by authorities to some degree it is much more subtle than most people know by the media moguls.

A proposal to amend the Constitution to address the recent Supreme Court decision would allow regulation of speech by corporate entities but not of the press. Why? And would this involve the government having to define more specifically what constitutes the "media?" How would it be defined? Would the press protections only apply to for-profit news organizations? What about public relations departments of corporations? What about advocacy groups like 501(c)(4) organizations and the like?

It can’t be done for the very reasons you suggest. Defining a different set of rules for press vs speech is not possible, nor is creating a different set of rules for corporate entities than individuals.

There s no serious proposal to do that in any event. None of the original 10 amendments have ever been repealed, and that is effectively what this idea would involve. The 1st says "Congress shall pass no law infringing ……" You can’t adjust that, you’d have to strike it out entirely.

How come ’socialist’ European countries have more press freedom than the United States?

I kind of tried to find out on the internet, but I’m not very good at researching, so i ended up finding nothing. What i meant by harassment are stuff like intimidation, prosecution, threats…

Aren’t they the ones usually harassing and intimidating others?
