If the terrorists attacked the US because they hate American freedom was the Patriot Act Bush’s surrender ?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

19 men armed with box cutters (so the story goes) attacked America because they hate US freedoms –

Bush in an act of surrender – takes those freedoms away from the American people

Agree disagree ?

I TOTALLY AGREE

he gave them exactly what they wanted.

Conservatives/Republicans are still using fear tactics to persuade people. Way to keep terrorizing people guys.

Beautifully put.

Agreed 110%. Neo-cons awarded Al-Q the fear based reactions they were after. Eveything neo-con has been counter productive to the war on terror.

Oh puhleeese. We were hated and attacked because we are deemed to be infidels. It has nothing whatsoever to do with jealously of American freedom and everything to do with the fact that the US is not a Muslim country.

I disagree with the part about them wanting to take away our freedoms.

Those terrorists were retaliating, and it is our job to take control of our government (for the people remember), so that they don’t provoke terrorists to do another 9/11.

We should stay out of other countries business, unless they ask!

The US was built on democracy, not forcing our beliefs down other peoples throats.

Disagree. They hate our freedom to be able to choose not to bow to allah 5 times a day. They don’t hate our freedom to be able to make suspicious calls to Saudi Arabia.

Illiberals put equality over liberty until our lives are at stake. At that point they put liberty over survival.

When a nuclear bomb goes off in your city, you’re going to wish Bush himself had been listening to your phone calls. If you think the Bush administration is "shredding" our constitution, just imagine how the constituion is going to protect you when America goes up in smoke.

Right on the money, Trout!! you stated it beautifully!

Yes, the patriot act was Bush’s surrender. If the terrorists were trying to rob Americans of their freedoms… Bush did indeed sign them over.

I would have to agree. It may not be similar to waving a huge white flag but it certainly is warranted as a surrender no matter how small the "white flag" is. Great question.

I’ve never heard of a single person who has lost any civil rights because of the patriot act. The government is paid to protect us, not ignore the pasture so that the wolves can eat all the sheep they want. Do you think Osama Bin Laden is for or against the patriot act?

Take a look at the Civil war and the suspension of constitutional rights. Take a look at the internment of the japanese during ww2. Take a look at basic US history and you will see that even with the patriot act we have far far more freedom from the gvt, esp during war time then so many times in the past. So have no fear, the sky is not falling and our rights are not gone.

Your cable company knows every show you watch. Your phone company knows every person you ever talked to. Your ISP knows every website you visited. When you go out in public you are literally on video camera the majority of the time. Who still thinks their lives are private? If you dont freak out over things like these, why are you freaking out because the gvt, that is responsible for protecting the country from threats, is randomly listening to millions of phone calls for a few key phrases that have been proven to be terrorist key words. Get over yourselves. The gvt just doesnt think you are that important.

arglebargle, what the heck do you think you do every single time you pass any laws whatsoever????? You take away one freedom to provide another. If you pass a smoking ban you are taking away the freedom to smoke to allow the freedom to be free of smoke. When pass a tax, you are taking away the freedom not to pay that tax to have the freedom of whatever service that tax is providing. Creating a society is all about compromise. What freedoms are you willing to compromise or sacrifice to ensure other freedoms exist? That is the question every society must decide.

your question seems to have answers that have gray areas. I would say yes and no. What you believe he did or did not do may not have anything to do with the out come. But here’s the deal, though, Bush makes final decisions. He’s decisions were influenced by the idiots that he fired and quit. The poor guy is in a situation of stagnations. What made things worse were, like I say, "flawed in his influences." Good enough, yes?

Your point is well taken but many of the American freedoms they hate need pointed out. Like the contrast between how we spoil and over coddle women compared to their dark ages mindset over where a woman’s place is. We meddle in world affairs in the name of human rights yet turn our back on oppressed people in African nations. To their point of view the US Govt is a hypocritical liar and bully. A one world govt cannot exist as long as Islam stands in the way. They fear us because they know they are on the NWO agenda for eventual elimination. By causing chaos here it buys them time. The underlying problem is decades old, it was begun at the end of WW 2. We should have listened to Patton and MacArthur and eliminated them, should not have formed the state of Israel, and eliminated the Russians while we had the only big stick in existence. I think we should have also placed the Berlin wall at the French border. The Patriot Act is akin to most govt labels as it is actually its names exact opposite. So hypothetically your statement is right on. The problem is that the same people with a hand in the attack, also drew up the Patriot Act.

    I agree….

but if the USA Patriot Act was an act of surrender then what do we call it when you add….

    The Security Enhancement Act
    The Military Commissions Act
    John Warner’s Defence Authorization Act
    New Freedom Initiative
    Etc, Etc, Etc

    I’d say …..more like a samurai’s suicide.

Great question! i absolutely agree and the republican controlled supreme court has helped him take away our freedoms every step of the way. Bush handed Bin Laden his victory and we just heard a portion of his victory speech.

Imagine his ability to recruit new members when he explains how 19 men changed this country forever….imagine what 19,000 could do or 190,000. Bush is taking away our freedoms while giving the terrorists the freedom to continue crossing our open borders and prepare for new attacks.

The two biggest lies in this whole war on terror are, " They hate us because we are free." and, " We are fighting them over there so we won’t have to fight them over here."
