What are some real world events that support that freedom of speech should be a guaranteed right?

Posted on June 29th, 2011 by admin

I really would like some examples of why freedom of speech should be a guaranteed right to all Americans. Some news articles or rallies in which protesters and what not win for their cause for the greater good of the country.

Without freedom of speech it could have been impossible for Jim crowe laws to be repealed as many southern states likely would have outlawed complaining or talking about the inequalities of it.

Also see places like north Korea, where one can be killed for simply not liking something the government did or is doing.

Why do liberals who proclaim to be "freedom lovers" request and fight for nanny-state laws to protect them?

Posted on June 27th, 2011 by admin

from just about everything rather than making smart decisions for themselves?

(examples being nosmoking bans, transfat bans, attempt to ban fast food etc?)

Isn’t pushing these sorts of nanny state policiies the antithesis to freedom?

They don’t. Liberals just don’t live in a black and white world.

Smoking is harmful to everyone. If a person wants to smoke and risk lung cancer, that is his/her choice. But, the people sitting at the next table do not have the choice of inhaling his smoke. Banning outside smoking is going too far.

Transfat is not good for anyone and not necessary. You are free to eat as much as you like.

‘Nanny State" must be the new scary buzzword from FOX news.

Guess which group tolerate freedom of speech less? Easy 10 points!?

I have been on both a communist forum and a christian forum for over 3 years, and I have been equally agreeable or disagreeable with both of them, but guess which forum temporarily banned, warned and deleted my post much often than the other?

I am a Christan. I consider myself a real true Christian, open minded, ready to explore the unknown to receive a better and deeper understanding. But I will say to your answer that I believe it would be the Christians that would be the first to persecute you. I am sorry if I am wrong and I am sorry if I have offended any christian. Forgive me.

If you oppose the Greek Protestors, what will you do when the IMF Shuts Down American Freedom?

Posted on June 20th, 2011 by admin

You think Capitalism can’t crush America the way it’s crushing Greece?
You think the US will never need a "bail out"?

When that happens, our Creditors will want to make sure they get their money back.
Good bye freedom. hello Almighty Dollar.
Marx was white of course.

Either way, things can’t go on like this forever. Just wait and see, something has to happen. And of course capitalism is crushing Greece, it just proves, once again, that capitalism simply doesn’t work: Either, you have a huge income gap and a high poverty rate (and people are eventually going to riot because they are poor), or you try to fight that with government spending and end up with a broke country.

Btw, you just reminded me of my favorite version of this :)

where does your state rank as far as freedom goes ?

Posted on June 17th, 2011 by admin

my state of new york is dead last

California is 48 as far as "freedom" goes. I think it is 50 in terms of pro business. This state is turning into a disaster

How old must you be for the Freedom of Speech to be applied to you as a US citizen?

Posted on June 15th, 2011 by admin

My school principle told two kids they had to take down a Facebook page called "You know you go to Jeff High if…" and students would put funny endings on like "you take Mexican instead of Spanish". Do the kids have the right to keep it up as Freedom of Speech since it doesn’t impede on the learning environment of the school or does the principle have authority?

If this is a public school, the principal is completely wrong…if it is a private school, the principal can do whatever he wants…

In the end, however, this is a fight you’re not going to have the resources to fight…you’re better off just making the facebook page private…

Actually, the guy below got it wrong..it was "bong hits for jesus"…

What were the problems faced for the struggled for rights and freedom for the stolen generation?

What did the stolen generations face while struggling for rights and freedoms?
Pleaseee help!
Thanks:)

The psychic scars left by 200 years of murder, displacement, spiritual upheaval, abuse and assimilation, combined with the appallingly low standard of living that many Aborigines experience today, have led to well-publicised problems of substance and alcohol abuse, often resulting in aggression.
http://www.pilotguides.com/destination_guide/pacific/australia/history_of_aborigines.php

1. Possibly up to 10% Aboriginal children grew up without knowing their families or culture during these years of forced removal.
2. Increased sense of being lower class and devalued
3. institutionalization – abuse, poor relationships, limited opportunities
4. ignorance of these events in the broader community
5. campaign for recognition – "Bringing them home report" 1997 (Note that during the 1960s the term ’stolen generations’ was not used)

The significance of the Charter of Rights and Freedom?

Posted on June 11th, 2011 by admin

How was the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom significant to Canada and Canada’s independence?

It let immigrants in from all over the world, and life will never be the same here again. A sad time.

why do freedom hating american christian fundamentalists like to hijack the image of american freedom?

Posted on June 9th, 2011 by admin

and twist into into a christian theocracy. yes america was founded by chrsitians but they were secular christians who believe in freedom of and or from religion. i’m not american but i notice a lot of american christians do this.
some christians are just as bad as some of the islamists out there.

because those specific christians think they have more rights than the rest of us
