Why is it honorable to sacrifice your life for your country’s freedom, but not to sacrifice your money.?

Posted on October 31st, 2010 by admin

The GOP is all gung-ho when it comes to our military men and women who sacrifice their lives for our freedoms but when asked to sacrifice their money thru taxation for people to get true freedom from ignorance and poverty it’s a different story.

AMERICA’S ARMED FORCES ARE FULL OF VOLUNTEERS!

I never volunteered to pay taxes. I was forced to.

EDIT: Holy crap is the ignorance in this country astounding!

What is the quote about isolation/solitude and freedom?

Posted on October 29th, 2010 by admin

Hey all, so I was wondering what is that quote, I think it’s from the romantic time period, I think it goes something like

"Only when in solitude does man know complete freedom"

Does anyone know if that is right and who wrote it?

Thanks all!

Is it this one?
A man can be himself so long as he is alone;…if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom; for it is only when he is alone that he is really free. – Arthur Schopenhauer.

What are the freedom of press rights for students & teachers?

Posted on October 29th, 2010 by admin

Ok so I have this project due on wednesday and am having a little problem finding some of the rights for freedom of press. I covered the religious views of both of them anything else I missed? Please help me!!

There is no "freedom of press" per se. There is freedom of speech and the media clings very tightly to it. Students and teachers have the exact same rights as everyone else.
Not sure where you’re going with the religious thing…you’ll need to give more background if you want any meaningful answers.

why is white america behind gwb’s freedom to the world agenda and yet it fails to do so at home?

Posted on October 29th, 2010 by admin

we can see that freedom for black americans is still a daily struggle in U.S of A and yet when it comes to going around the world talking about freedom george bush is numero uno yet when it comes to speaking out about the injustice against blacks in america he is silent. claiming to defend freedom around the world, george bush has once again failed to defend freedom at home. a classic example is the jenna 6 case and other such cases around the US

hanging nooses from a tree is stupid, ignorant, visually assaulting. But beating someone half to death is different.
So using the jenna6 crap in your question has no merit.
Mr. Bush I don’t care for. However…..
There are many, many successful Black citizens in the US my friend. MANY! That don’t get hassled by the police and such….want to know why?
Because the "Thugs", people are sick of!!
Injustice?…..Black men kill black men!!!! Everyday!! Over drugs, territory, and all that other gang related crap!
Don’t you think the police are hardened by day after day after day of the same old crap? Drive by shootings. Children and innocent people caught in the crossfire. ETC.
You think Snoop Dogg is struggling?
How’s about Denzel Washington, Cedric, DL Hugly, Eddie Murphy, Russel Simmons, Sean Combs, Oprah Winfrey, Tara Banks, etc. etc. etc……..Only poor black people who don’t want a better life, and poor white people, who don’t want a better life, whine!!!!!
Get a JOB!!!
Take a Bath!!!
Clean up your yard!!
Knock the chip off of your shoulder, poor me, poor me, no one wants to hear it anymore!!!
Opportunity knocks in this country, that is why people are willing to die to get in here…..
You want success, avoid the "struggle" you claim?
Then you have to want something bad enough to make it happen and not expect it HANDED TO YOU!!!
I am assuming your Black?
You just proved you have FREEDOM my friend, you posted your question didn’t you, and no one is breaking down your door now are they!!!

The Freedom of Speech protect you from talking about crimes others committed?

Posted on October 29th, 2010 by admin

Like if you know someone who committed a crime years ago, (like say a $10,000 robbery) but that person never got caught, can you talk about it (even though you were not involved in any way, shape or form, the person just told you about it since he’s your friend for many years). Can you talk about it without being harassed by Police? If not, why not? Isn’t freedom of speech suppose to protect the individual? What extremities does freedom of speech protect you from?

As the other responses indicated, this really isn’t a free speech issue at all. You seem to think that you have the right to speak to others about a crime without police officers seeking information about it. The First Amendment only prohibits the (federal) government from abridging your right to free speech by punishing or prohibiting certain speech. You don’t seem concerned with punishment on account of your proposed speech, except in the form of police "harassment," which doesn’t seem to be more than the ordinary investigation of what you acknowledge is a crime.

It’s certainly possible for police to take actions in response to your speech that would be a constitutional violation, but that probably would be an extreme case and doesn’t seem to be what you’re concerned about.

Can a state be classed as a freedom of speech state but not tolerate racism or insighting violence?

Posted on October 29th, 2010 by admin

I’m using the UK as an example as I live here. The politicians talk about Britain being a free country, however, the state doesn’t tolerate racism. Is this contradictory?

This is slightly contradictory, but it still allows for most expressions of political and religious opinions.

The United States has more uh, free freedom of speech laws. Although inciting to violence is not allowed, because it encourages commitment of a crime, and threats or slander is not allowed either, insults are allowed. For example, the KKK is very racist, but as long as they do not commit any crimes they are tolerated.

If you’re going to restrict freedom of speech, such as banning racists speech, then it’s a careful line. On one hand, you are protecting a group of people, but on the other you are restricting freedoms. There is a small middle ground in which you need to be.

I prefer the American way of being more lax.

Is the greater threat to American freedom the government or Islamic terrorism?

Posted on October 29th, 2010 by admin

Terrorists can attack and blow things up and kill people, but that just provides an excuse for government to restrict individual freedom. Isn’t it important to ask WHY terrorist attacks occur?
Unless, of course, you desire a fascist theocratic state
Obviously terrorism is an affront on the freedom of it’s victims, but it is not a threat to *America’s* freedom. Terrorism is not a threat to the security and prosperity of the nation as a whole. Only the government in response to terrorism is.

"Isn’t it important to ask WHY terrorist attacks occur?"
Yes, it is but I’m afraid apathy is easy and being informed takes effort. A lot of fear, loss of rights, expense and death could have been prevented if we only asked why terrorist attacks occur and found suitable solutions beforehand.

Do you feel the freedom of life?

Posted on October 29th, 2010 by admin

I do :) cause I graduated from highschool (yr 12) yesterday!!
Now its just my HSC exams and then I’m freeeeeeeee until uni ^_^
reverential: you must have a sad life.
there is freedom even in the acceptance that we must die, yet i believe we are reborn again hence freedom is a continuating experience at different times during one’s life.

Freedom in life is not absolute, even we follow the necessary rules, obligatory.
