What happened to freedom, little Hitler removed from home?

Posted on December 13th, 2009 by admin

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2009/01/13/2009-01-13_report_child_named_adolf_hitler_removed_.html

Let the tyranny begin.
For those to lazy to read the story

No reason was given for why the children were removed, however, and Holland Township police chief David Van Gilson told the site they had not received any reports of abuse or negligence.

There is obviously more to the story than we know. If they removed the children because of a name, God help us.

Freedom of Speech should there be complete freedom or restrictions?

Posted on December 13th, 2009 by admin

I need the different point of views of those who believe there should be complete freedom of speech without limitations and the point of view of those who believe there should be restrictions on what people can say in public. Some examples would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance!

1. Clear and present danger test. You cannot say anything that would bring imminent threat to the public IE yelling fire in a crowded theatre.
2. Slander and libel. CAnnot print any false things meant to hurt someone.
3. Time place manner restrictions. There are restrictions on when, where, and how things can be said.
4. Prisons, military bases, and schools all have restrictions, as free speech interferes with the purpose of said facilities.

I agree with all of these. Without it, there would be lies and chaos spread. Words and expresion can be more powerful at creating chaos than violence.

Do you seek refuge and freedom? How important is this state of being to you?

"give me liberty or give me death"-

Why do some Obama supporters have a problem with people associating with groups that practice their freedom ..?

Posted on December 13th, 2009 by admin

Why do some Obama supporters have a problem with people associating with groups that practice their freedom of speech, but not with people associating with groups that tried to bomb and kill people?

Example – AIP vs Weather Underground

Lurkain, what makes you think people in AIP are bigots?
Ethel M, why do you think we should squelch certain people’s freedom of speech?
[ **** ], actually in America freedom of speech can be ignorant and stupid.

I have to agree with gooberx…

I don’t believe in squelching freedom of speech but it seems to be happening in America a lot more these days.
I find this video interesting, because people can say the O is not truthful, but until you actually are able to compare the lies, side-by-side, it’s hard to understand.

What countries do not have the freedom of speech and/or press?

Posted on December 10th, 2009 by admin

I was speaking with a friend from Australia who possesses a degree in Law, and she stated that the Australian constitution does not contain a clause protecting speech or press. (Mostly their constitution only outlines the powers of their branches of government) As a democratic ally of the US, this fact surprised me. What I want to know is what other countries do not hold clauses of freedom of speech and/or press? GB? Canada? Germany? Japan? Spain? NZ? India? Any ideas?

GB technically has no freedom of speech or press. For instance, the ratings given to films in the US are not mandatory – they cannot be, under the Constitution. However, in the UK films are rated and if it is refused a rating it cannot legally be shown in public.

Having said all that, there is much common law which grants freedom of expression in other countries. The fact is, the US is an anomaly, because of the tyranny it had to endure as it was seeking independence from the British Crown.
