How would you interpret this quote: "I am chained to the earth to pay for the freedom of my eyes."?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

It is true. The only major difference is:-

Some people are having this feeling with a gold chain.
Some people are having this feeling with silver chain.
Some people are having this feeling with iron chain.

At the same time some there are people who are not at all having any metal chain. Still they feel they are chained or bound or jailed. Thus people are bound by some sort of invisible (subtle) chain, which is called attraction or repulsion. They live in this a free world with all sorts of bondage. Just like magnet they are attracted. The Mother Earth is, therefore, having gravitational power which acts like a magnet.

How do you explain the concept of rights (as in freedom is a right)to ESL students?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

Chinese students studying for the naturalization exam are having a hard time with the word "right" as it is used in the BIll of Rights," for example. Any ideas on how to convey its definition? They are still struggling with basic English.

tell them to use dictionary
right is you can do anything you want not right or wrong

Why might the freedom of press be such an important right in a democracy?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

Because as a democracy is a government where the people vote for candidates and on issues, it is important that they are able to get accurate information from which to base their decisions on. If you live in a nation where the press is not free, and is instead state controlled, you will only hear what they want you to hear and in a way they wish for it to be presented. You will therefore be basing your decision of information that isn’t entirely accurate or wholly representative of the truth.

Two examples of nations which are at least nominally democratic, yet do not have a free press, are Russia and Venezuela. Both governments have really cracked down on the press to the point that they are basically uncritical if not entirely supportive of their respective presidents. Not coincidentally, both Putin and Chavez are enjoying enormous popularity.

This demonstrates just how essential a free press is, as democracy can easily be subverted when accurate information is not easily available.

Is anyone familiar with either of these home schooling curriculum?–Rod & Staff or Landmark’s Freedom?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

Baptist Curriculum. If so, please tell me what you liked and what you disliked about either? If you have used either, would you use again? Why or why not?

They are both *very* conservative Christian curriculums. Rod & Staff is published by Mennonites, and Landmark Freedom but conservative Baptists.

If you are very conservative, then they are wonderful. However, if you’re not, you’re going to have to do a lot of editing.

Personally, as a Christian, I don’t think it’s necessary to use a Christian curriculum all the time. I’d much rather take a "blank slate" curriculum, and add our beliefs to it, rather than say, "Well, *some* Christians believe this, but we don’t." So I mix and match curriculums, focusing more on what fits my son’s learning style and what fits my teaching and learning styles.

Just my input…

Does it come under FREEDOM of SPEECH, if one offers money to a man to convince his girlfriend to go with him?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

The man who makes such offer would say, Accept or say SORRY,nothing wrong in it.

The man who is offered would feel insult to his dignity. Offended, he may beat the other. What would be legal aspect under Freedom of Speech.

I DONT KNOW

Does separation of church and state preclude freedom of religion?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

I understand the separation of church and state and its’ importance. However, if college students are getting reprimanded for having prayer groups in university dorm rooms, children are prohibited from talking about God (or whatever they believe in) at school, or people are prohibited to display signs of their religion on lockers or desks at work, haven’t we trampled on their freedom of religion as well? Where’s the line?

Good question with many possible answers!!

But I tend to view religious expression along the same lines as cigarette smoking. It seems that you can do what you like, but if it’s offensive to someone else, the non-smoker has priority.

This is a very crude model, but maybe you see what i mean.

If the terrorists attacked the US because they hate American freedom was the Patriot Act Bush’s surrender ?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

19 men armed with box cutters (so the story goes) attacked America because they hate US freedoms –

Bush in an act of surrender – takes those freedoms away from the American people

Agree disagree ?

I TOTALLY AGREE

he gave them exactly what they wanted.

Conservatives/Republicans are still using fear tactics to persuade people. Way to keep terrorizing people guys.

Beautifully put.

Would life be worth living without freedom of choice?

Which of the following statements about freedom of assembly is FALSE?

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by admin

A) Freedom of assembly includes the right to assemble and the right to associate.

B) Freedom of assembly allows groups to demonstrate at any time, at any place, or in any manner they wish.

C) Without freedom of assembly we would not have the right to form political parties or interest groups.

D) Nazis have the constitutional right to march through a heavily Jewish community.

B is false.

Just FYI, any question that uses the phrase ‘always’ or ‘any’ is probably false.

If Glenn Beck is all about freedom and personal rights and doesn’t discriminate, is he for gay rights?

Posted on December 18th, 2009 by admin

Though he is an outrageously conservative republican and he is convinced that America is under communist rule, does he support gay rights? He mentions freedom several times.

I think Glenn Beck believes the Bible – so no he would not be for gays to have special rights.
