Do you have less freedom and rights now, than before Bush? Are we givin it away under guise of protection?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

Anyone have personal experience or know someone who has dealt with loss of our freedoms or rights over the last 8 years? It seems in the "protection" against "terrorism", we are allowing our rights to be taken away. Even if not a personal experience, what do you think? Any concerns besides mine about how the administration has inflated its rights and diminished ours? Wire tapping…holding persons of interest without being arrested…especially veterans…what do you think since you have fought for our freedoms?

Those willing to sacrifice security for freedom deserve neither….Thomas Jefferson said something to that effect.

It is scary times for sure, I attended the Peace March at the RNC convention, and I witnessed so many disturbing things, I have no doubt any and all cities could be under marshall law with a blink of an eye…

What is so important about freedom of the press?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

I have to write a one page letter about the importance of freedom of the press. Please help me out with some ideas? Thank you so much. :)

Allows the ‘people’ to make an informed choice and decision on how they feel or act about issues.

Examples where the media is not free prejudices what the public can hear, or know about – so keep them naive and controllable. Examples here are Communist communities (such as China).

Sometimes the media is used for propoganda, such as in the war, to mis-communicate – which again, although will help the aim, is not fair to people.

considering hiring a financial planner to help with financial goals (credit card freedom and home ownership)?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

Did hiring someone work for anyone to reach some long-term goals like paying off credit cards and preparing for home ownership? Can I solicit some person experiences about successfully paying off those credit cards?

Honestly, paying someone else to help you fix credit debt is usually not helpful. Set some goals for yourself. Make them modest but significant in how they’ll get you to your end-goal.

Pay off credit with the highest interest rate first. Pay the maximum amount you can afford to pay on that until it’s gone, while paying the minimum on the rest of your debts. When the highest is paid, move on to the next highest and put the full amount you can to that while minimums on the rest.

Pay yourself first. That is, get some savings built up while you’re doing this. Then you’ll have cleared your debt and saved a little money at the same time. Some people say to pay debts before saving, but I like to recommend saving a little at the same time in order to have some cash reserves to fall back on in case of emergency, rather than running up debt again in an emergency.

For example, if you make $2000 per month. Your expenses, not counting credit debt are $1300 per month. Credit debt is $7500, with 3 cards at 15.6%, 11.8%, and a special rate of 8.8% for the next six months that goes up to 18% at the end of that period. Save $100 per month in savings. Keep another $100 to "have fun with" because the biggest problem people have is not sticking to a really strict budget plan. Use the remaining $500 to pay the minimum on the 8.8 and 11.8% debts, let’s say $150 total. Put the other $350 toward the 15.6% debt. At the end of the grace period for the 8.8% that then becomes 18%, shift that to the top of the pile and pay it first.

Any time you get a raise, take 1% of the raise and add that to the money you are saving. Take the rest of the raise and put it toward your debts. When you’re debt free, put all the money toward your savings and other investments.

My biggest benefit came when I got divorced. I sold my house, paid all the credit debts my ex and I had and then got rid of all my credit cards. Since then I’ve only bought what I could pay cash for and I’ve been much better off as a result. Sometimes it meant I went "lean" for a little while on fun things, but I’ve been debt free, other than student loans for almost 10 years now. I’ll be completely debt free (from student loans and everything) in the next year and a half. I just recently bought a new home with my current wife, and we’re building a lot of investment capital besides our 401k and savings, so we should be able to retire at about 45-50 years old if things continue on the present path.

How can the freedom of speech be protected on the Internet?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

What is freedom of speech? What is the universal law? What is the law in Nigeria? How does the internet challenge the status quo? Which law operates in cases of violation of freedom of speech law? How does one resolve cases of conflict of laws?

I don’t see how freedom of speech can be affected on the internet… on the net you can always find a place where you can say anything you want.

How many of you feel that we are living in a police state and freedom is just a memory of days gone by .?

I wanted to go fishing and this is what I had to do .
First was obtain a drivers license so I could tow a boat to the lake . To do this I needed to be examined and approved by the state .
Second I needed to register the boat I hand crafted myself and pay a tax on its value to receive a sticker that must be displayed on my boat registering it with the state.
The trailer needed to also have a tag as well as the car .
This is just part of it .
I needed to get a fishing license and this was easy enough to do but then they asked what kind of fish I would be trying to catch . Seems that some fish require extra stamps on my fishing license .
I wonder what happens if the wrong fish takes the bait . One I have no stamp for .
Anyhow a violation or failure to meet with any of these above mentioned items can land you in jail and at the very least an appearance in court and fines .
The coast guard can even take your boat if they want . SO tell me is this all a bit to much to go fishing .
By the way lets not blame one party or the other for this since they both have a hand in this mess of laws and regulations that can and often do result in people going to prison for failing to follow the laws and rules .

You need to move to Florida and fish off the piers. No liscense required.

Anyway it’s not a party thing but lets reduce the power of the government in peoples lives. Less taxes, less government.

SLAVERY for your whole Life or FREEDOM at the risk of your Life?

Posted on September 27th, 2009 by admin

This is during Fredericks Douglass time around 1830. Would you choose to be enslaved for your whole life and live, or taking the risk of dieing for your freedom.
Remember that running away as a slave is most likely being caught and killed.
Give your reasons why you would choose that

Personally I think it would make a difference as to whether I had a family or not. But also, part of the system was to keep the slaves uneducated and unaware of the world at large. So if you don’t know what’s 100 miles away, where do you run, where do you sleep, what do you eat (remember the slaves weren’t use to living off the land in the wilds). I think it is very easy to second guess how one would react, given our education and hindsight. But knowing what I do and having lived the life I have so far, I say that it’s better to die on your feet than live on your knees. Had I been born into a system that was designed to subjegate me and keep me ignorant, who knows.
